Regarding real estate, here’s more reality. Bigger house equals to more work. Old houses are charming, but you get to fix them. Hope you enjoy fixing that house "you fell in love with." New houses look great, but they aren’t usually built as well. Big garden brings you closer to nature, but it also gives you more work or more gardening cost for gardeners. Small gardens are intimate but the houses are often more packed together, and you won't be able to avoid your neighbors. Good areas with good school districts are great, but their property transaction tax often run into tens of thousands of pounds/dollars. In the US, many places have yearly property taxes that run into tens of thousands of dollars. Consider all these before you think you got a good deal when you buy up.
